Proved crude oil reserves in Canada reached 168 billion barrels in 2020. The Alberta oil sands were accounted for in the proven oil reserves under the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (now known as the Energy Resources Conservation Board). Canada's reserves accounted with 75 percent of North America's crude oil reserves.

* Total proved reserves of oil: generally taken to be those quantities that geological and engineering information indicates with reasonable certainty can be recovered in the future from known reservoirs under existing economic and operating conditions.
Reserves include gas condensate and natural gas liquids (NGLs) as well as crude oil.
