by Evgeniya Koptyug, last edited Jun 7, 2019
Ranking of the most popular furniture retailers in Germany 2015-2018 Almost predictably, Sweden’s IKEA was the most popular furniture retailer in Germany. Over 26 percent of shoppers had made a purchase there in 2018. It’s a safe bet that almost everyone you will meet has at least one IKEA item in their home. Other leading furniture retailers on the German market include Dänisches Bettenlager, a Danish company from Aarhus, and Poco Domäne, a German furniture discounter.

As in other countries, IKEA is popular among consumers for numerous reasons, among them pricing and the option to easily assemble items without professional help. Otherwise, German furniture retail has a lot to bring to the table, including a stable number of businesses. Granted, figures have fallen since 2000, but still stand at an impressive 8,796 as of 2017. Based on revenue comparisons between furniture retailers, IKEA was once again the centerpiece of the ensemble, generating almost 4.87 million euros, also in 2017. The Swedish company’s revenues in Germany have only grown in recent years.
