U.S. & Canada: cinema's biggest December opening weekends 2024

As of February 2024, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) had the biggest December opening weekend for a movie in the United States and Canada, grossing more than 260 million U.S. dollars on its first weekend of screening. Out of the top 15 on display, four titles are part of the "Star Wars" franchise, including the second-placed film, "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens" (2015), at almost 248 million dollars. Other four movies in the top 15 were based on the work of J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973).
