The source adds the following information: "Notes: surface water and groundwater withdrawals (including withdrawals for the cooling of power stations) are counted, apart from the water taken from the soil by agricultural plants ( excluding irrigation) »
According to the source, the water footprint "estimates the level of pressure that a population exerts, by its consumption, on the water resource at the world level. Thus, the water footprint of France includes water directly consumed by French households as well as that used for the production, in France or abroad, of goods or services consumed by these same households. "
The source also adds that the water footprint of French consumption of 40 billion cubic meters of water in 2007 corresponds to 650 cubic meters per inhabitant.
