* Types of accident:
- Collision (excluding level crossings): frontal impact or rear impact between two trains or (lateral) impact between a train and part of another train outside the gauge or a train striking during maneuvering movements, fixed objects or objects temporarily present on or near the railway.
- Derailments: all cases where at least one wheel of a train leaves the rails.
- Accidents at level crossings: any accident occurring at a level crossing and involving at least one rail vehicle and one or more road vehicle (s),
- Personal accidents: any accident of one or more person (s) undergoing a collision with a railway vehicle, a part of the vehicle or an object detached from the vehicle.
- Fires: fires and explosions that occur in railway vehicles (or their loads) during the journey between the departure and destination stations, including during intermediate stops and train formation operations.
