The piping industry was found to be the major beneficiary of the planned expansion of piped drinking water projects in India with a benefit share of 40 percent. The total cost across segments differed based on the projects and other parameters such as geographical location, access to drinking water, and the quality of water.
The distribution pipeline had the major cost associated with it as it consisted of the main pipeline, sub-main pipeline, and service or branch pipes leading to the end-user. EPC comprised of civil works such as the construction of a reservoir and other civil structures. Waste treatment involved the treatment of water to make it suitable for drinking purposes. Therefore, its share was based on the quality of water.
