Medal count by country in the Men's Pole Vault at the Summer Olympics 1896-2020
The Men's Pole Vault has been included in all Summer Olympic Games since 1896, and athletes from the United States have seen the most success in the event since this time. U.S. athletes have won 19 gold medals in this event, and 47 total medals. The most successful athlete in this event is Bob Richards, who won two golds and one bronze medal between 1948 and 1956. The pole vault is notable for a large number of medals shared between competitors with tied scores, for example, one gold, two silver and three bronze medals were given out in the event in 1912. The only athlete to have been stripped of a medal in this event was Ukraine's Denys Yurchenko, who was stripped of the bronze he won in 2008, after retests in 2016 showed traces of performance enhancing drugs.
