Selling games via digital storefronts such as Steam, Good old Games (GOG) or any app store comes at a price for developers. Until the beginning of 2021, the industry default was 30 percent of revenue going the platform owner, and 70 percent of revenue to the developer. The Epic Games Store has launched amidst announcements of taking a much small cut for itself, immediately upsetting the industry standard. During an early 2021 survey, 23 percent of responding game developers reported that digital store fronts should only receive ten percent of their games' revenue. Only three percent of respondents agreed that 30 percent of revenue to game storefronts was a justifiable amount.
