¹ The term „product price“ is used in the mineral oil industry for pricing crude oil in Rotterdam.
Since 2021, certificates for a fixed price of 25 euros per ton of CO₂ need to be acquired. This results in additional costs of 6.7 cents per liter of diesel fuel excluding VAT and 8 cents per liter diesel fuel including VAT. In 2022, the price per ton CO₂ increased to 30 euros. This results in additional costs of 1.3 cents per liter excluding VAT and 1.6 cents per liter including VAT.

The VAT rate for mineral oil goods is currently 19 percent. Since this rate (as with all other products) adds to the net price, the VAT share in relation to the gross price is 16 percent. Example: a product costs 100 euro, net price excluding VAT. 19 euros (19 percent VAT) are added. The gross price is 119 euros. Based on the gross price, 19 euros, in this case, are 16 percent (19 divided by 119 equals 16 percent).
