Japan: marriage rate in Tokyo

In 2022, Tokyo Prefecture registered 5.6 new marriages per one thousand inhabitants, up from about 5.2 marriages in the previous year. The marriage rate did not exceed six marriages per one thousand in 2020 for the first time in the last decade.

In general, figures are based on the number of registered marriages in the prefecture of the grooms' residential address. In the case of a groom being adopted into a bride's family, the marriage is registered in the bride's residential prefecture.

Figures prior to 2014 come from the previous reporting.
