In 2021, there were 124,137 cases of cyber crime recorded by the police in Germany. This was over double the number of cases 10 years ago. There was a decrease in the number of cases between 2013 and 2015, but subsequently there was a sharp rise, and since then the number of cases have been increasing.

This includes the misuse of telecommunications services (until 2016 fraud with access authorizations to communication services), other computer fraud, spying and intercepting data including preparatory acts and receiving stolen data, falsifying evidentiary data, e.g., deception in legal transactions as well as data alteration/computer sabotage.

Figures until 2018 were taken from earlier editions of the National Cyber Crime Report (Bundeslagebild zum Cybercrime).
