Soy sauce market in China
Soy sauce has played a significant role in Chinese culinary culture throughout history. More than 2,000 years ago, the Chinese discovered the technique of fermenting soy sauce, which later spread to neighboring countries. Soy sauce is now one of the most widely used condiments in East Asian kitchens. China is one of the world's largest soy sauce markets, with a domestic demand of 7.7 million metric tons in 2021.
China's soy sauce exports
In 2021, China supplied over 183,000 metric tons of soy sauce worldwide, more than doubling the amount of the Netherlands in second place. However, when it comes to export value, China was overtaken by the Netherlands by a small margin. The soy sauce exported from China was primarily shipped to the United States, Hong Kong, and Russia that year.
