Potential time savings with telemedicine in healthcare 2023

According to a report carried out by the Consumer Choice Center in 2023, telemedicine had the greatest potential for time savings in healthcare in Australia. It was estimated in the most optimistic scenario those in Australia could save up to 362 minutes, or just over six hours, each year. Even in a conservative estimate, Australians could save almost an hour an half with an uptake in telemedicine use.

Conservative estimate: Assuming 17 percent of consultations could be made through telemedicine, and taking the OECD average of 6.8 consultations per year while also factoring in the time taken for telemedicine appointments compared to in-person and the time saved by not travelling to the appointment.

Optimistic estimate: Same as above but where 75 percent of consultations can be done with telemedicine.
