* Mortality rate improvement shown is an average, unadjusted value, and was calculated using the following steps: 1) Sum observed deaths and case counts by year for each star rating category; 2) Calculate a mortality rate which is the number of deaths divided by the case count for each year, for each category; 3) Calculate the Overall Average Improvement by (2007 rage minus 2009 rate) divided by 2007 rate.
