This graph shows the total number of property crimes in the United States in 2009, by month. Approximately 523,000 property crimes occurred in the United States in February. Altogether, there were nearly 8 million property crimes in 2009, including burglary, larceny theft, and motor vehicle theft. Larceny theft involves the successful or attempted taking of property from another person, it includes shoplifting, pocket-picking, purse-snatching and bicycle theft.
