This statistic illustrates the number of offshore drilling wells for liquid oil and natural gas under exploration and appraisal and in development on the United Kingdom continental shelf between 2000 and 2016. The number of wells in development fell from a peak of 286 in 2001 to under 150 in 2009. In 2007 there were 111 offshore wells in the appraisal and exploration phase.
