As of 2023, the hotel occupancy rate of all Hong Kong hotels was around 82 percent, up from approximately 66 percent in the previous year. In 2019, the Hong Kong protests had already led to a decrease in tourist numbers and a low occupancy rate.

According to the source, room occupancy rate is compiled based on daily rooms occupied against daily rooms available for sales in respect of hotels and guesthouses which responded to the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s monthly Hotel Room Occupancy Survey. Rooms under repair or being refurnished are excluded.
