In 2021, the consumption of gold jewelry stood at around 797 metric tons in India. Despite the fall in the previous years, jewelry consumption had proved resilient against demonetization, the introduction of goods and services tax and the obligatory declaration of permanent account numbers on purchases above 200 thousand Indian rupees.
