Number of inmates on death row in high courts India 2022, by verdict
The number of death row inmates whose death sentences were commuted by the high courts to a lighter punishment, such as imprisonment to life, amounted to 51 in the year 2022. Prisoners whose crimes were murder involving sexual offence formed the largest share of those who were given the death penalty under the Indian judicial system in 2022.
