Green bonds: currency of green bonds issued by new issuers in Europe 2019-2020

Green bonds are fixed income securities which finance investments with environmental or climate-related benefits. Over the nine months to September 2020, 27 of the total 42 green bonds that were issued by new issuers on the green bonds market were in euros. There was a similar story in 2019, with the euro accounting for 27 of the 42 green bonds issued by debut issuers in that year.
