Volume of PromptPay transactions Thailand 2017-2023

In 2023, PromptPay transactions reached around 19.89 billion transactions in Thailand, reflecting a significant increase compared to the previous year. That year, there were approximately 30.8 million digital payment users in the country.

 PromptPay payment method

PromptPay is an online money transfer system that has contributed significantly to the size of mobile banking in recent years. This system was launched in 2017 by the Bank of Thailand to explore new payment methods. Sending and receiving money using PromptPay is more convenient as there is no need for the use of long and detailed bank account information, as the system allows Thai users to connect their citizen IDs or mobile phone numbers to their bank accounts. According to a survey among Thai e-payment users, PromptPay was one of the leading e-payment services used in Thailand as of October 2022.
