As of 2019, only two percent of Mexican companies were proactive in their engagement in climate change mitigation, according to an assessment of 151 of the leading companies in the country. This means that the three companies in question have a proper report of their CO₂ emissions, as well as mitigation goals in line with the Paris Agreement. Reactive companies - which comply with the minimum requisites of emissions reporting for at least five consecutive years - made up for 19 percent of companies analyzed. Meanwhile, 73 percent were deemed inactive, failing to properly report their annual emissions.

The study evaluated 151 Mexican companies, based on the list of leading companies in Mexico in 2018 reported by Expansión magazine, taking into consideration their status, sector and level of impact in the sector.
