Public officials receiving bribes in Nigeria 2019, by gender of payer
According to a study conducted in Nigeria, males are more likely to pay bribes to police officers than females. As of 2019, 37 percent of male respondents paid or were asked to pay a bribe to a police officer, which was 12 percentage points more than female respondents in the same situation. Other public officials more likely to receive or ask for bribes include land registry officers, tax and revenue officers, public utility officers, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and prosecutors.
