Patreon is a crowdfunding platform that allows content creators to host their own paid membership service. On the platform, content creators can offer paid monthly subscriptions to their supporters - which are called "patrons"- in exchange for premium content, early access to videos and podcasts, and ad-free experience. As of July 2021, True Crime Obsessed was counting the highest number of paying patrons on the platform, with 45,874 listeners financially supporting the podcast's creators directly through the platform.
