Land burned by forest fires in Europe 2023, by country

Ukraine had more land burned by wildfires than any other country in Europe throughout 2023. The East European country lost more than 214,000 hectares to forest and wildland fires. This was dramatically above the average of 32,000 hectares between 2006 and 2022.

With the ever increasing threat of climate change, the number of natural disasters has gone up in the past few years. Wildfires have become more common in places that never experienced them previously.
