In an online survey conducted in Japan in November 2021, almost 52 percent of free music app users stated to use the free plan offered by Spotify. YouTube Music's free plan followed with close to 46 percent of respondents. The survey was conducted with a focus on users' attitudes and behaviors with regard to illegal music apps. The source identified Music FM and MusicBox as illegal apps.
