Canadians' views on number of Afghan refugees Canada pledged to accept 2021, by age
In response to the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and the risks it posed for many Afghans, the Canadian federal government announced in August 2021 that it would make further efforts to welcome 20,000 additional Afghan refugees. When questioned about this commitment in September of that year, Canadians were quite supportive. More than half of them considered this number to be the right one, with around 48 percent among those under 60 believing this. Some also felt that Canada should welcome more refugees.
