Children exposed to climate & environmental hazards worldwide 2021
In 2021, approximately two billion children were exposed to air pollution worldwide. That is equivalent to nearly 90 percent of children globally. That year, the number of minors threatened by water scarcity amounted to 920 million, and those exposed to heatwaves to 820 million. Coastal flooding posed a risk for 240 million children. As of 2022, it is estimated that with just 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming, about a quarter of the global population will be exposed to flooding.
