The total number of passengers traveling by Turkish Airlines increased gradually until 2020, when it decreased significantly to 28 million passengers due to nationwide lockdowns and border closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, the national flag carrier recorded a fast recovery; passenger numbers increased to approximately 45 million and continued to increase in the following years. As of 2023, 83.4 million passengers flew by the Turkish flag carrier. Turkish Airlines has been a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance since 2008.
