The global online gambling market has an estimated size, meaning gross win, of almost 22 billion euros in 2012. Gross win is defined as the stakes/wagers placed minus the prizes and payouts but including bonuses. It is projected that the market will rise to a value of more than 28 billion euros by 2015 constituting a growth rate of 30 percent over the next three years. Still in 2012 online gambling accounted for just eight percent of the total global gaming revenue.
The online gambling market is comprised of the categories sports betting, casino, poker and bingo. The biggest segment is sports-betting with a market share of 53 percent. The casino segment is the second-largest with 25.4 percent. Poker and bingo round out the market with 14.2 and 7.4 percent respectively. In 2015 sports-betting is forecast to grow to 14 billion euros in gross win, the casino segment to 7.5 billion euros, poker to 4.6 billion euros and the bingo segment to 2.1 billion euros.
