The largest copper mine in the United States as of 2022 was the Morenci Mine, located in Greenlee, Arizona. The Morenci Mine, owned by Freeport-McMoRan, produced an estimated 400,670 metric tons of copper that year. The Kennecott Copper Project in Utah, owned by Rio Tinto, came in a distant second, having produced an estimated 179,200 metric tons of copper in 2022.
