About This Statistic
This statistic shows the market shares of the internet service providers (ISPs) in the United Kingdom (UK) as of September 2016. Of the respondents, 28 percent were subscribed to any BT internet service and regarded it as their main service provider.
As can be seen in this statistic, BT, Sky, and Virgin Media are the main players when it comes to internet service providers. This can be attributed to many different factors, some of which are customer services, price, and connections speed. Number of complaints for broadband providers seems to vary quite greatly. This is also reflected in the user satisfaction of customer service for BT, Virgin Media, and Sky.
Being an internet service provider is not an easy undertaking, and entering and exiting the market is not as easy as it is for mobile virtual network operators (MVNO). Everything Everywhere (EE) for example, has an increasing number of MVNOs under its name.
