In 2018, Generali was the leading insurance company in the life segment in Italy. With a market share (in terms of gross written premiums) of 17.4, Generali surpassed Poste Italiane, which led the ranking in 2017. In fact, Poste Italiane lost the leading spot in the ranking due to its market share decreasing from 19.7 percent to 15.7 percent. Moreover, despite losing almost 1.5 percent in terms of market share, Intesa San Paolo was third in the ranking as in the previous year.
