Average price of amphetamine in the Netherlands 2008-2021

The average price of amphetamine in the Netherlands was relatively stable in the last decade, peaking in 2012 at nine euros per gram. In 2008, a gram was sold for six euros on average. In 2021, the average price was euros – a decrease compared to the previous year. Amphetamine is a relatively cheap drug. A gram of cocaine sold for roughly seven times as much.

 Amphetamine use on the rise

  According to a survey conducted since 1997, the use of amphetamine more than doubled in the last 20 years. Where in 1997, percent of respondents stated to have ever used amphetamine, by 2021 this had grown to percent. The share of regular users, defined by the source as respondents who have used amphetamine in the last month, increased fourfold in this period.

Amphetamine most popular among the young

  Amphetamine was most popular among the younger generation. Of the year olds, rouhly percent had experience using the drug. Among the year olds this was even higher, at percent. By comparison, of the respondents older than 65 years, only percent had ever tried amphetamine. Regular amphetamine use was highest among the year olds. In this age group, more than percent had used the drug in the past month.
