In 2021, the number of passengers train movements in the country amounted to 315.8 million train-kilometers, an increase of about 16 percent compared to the previous year. Passenger train traffic in Italy had decreased substantially in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and despite beginning to recovered remained below pre-pandemic levels in 2022.
