
Deaths due to vascular dementia in Spain 2006-2021
In 2021, the number of deaths from vascular dementia amounted to around 2.1 thousand cases in Spain, down from about 2.5 thousand deaths reported a year earlier. After peaking at over 2.9 thousand deaths in 2012, the number of casualties due to vascular dementia has been decreasing in the European country. Vascular dementia results from brain damage that interrupts blood flow to the brain cells, affecting brain functions such as memory, behavior, and thinking.
