Flooding is the most common natural phenomenon in Uruguay, generally due to the overgrow of rivers, lakes and dams after strong rain. In 2018, the number of evacuations because of floods reached 684 individuals, almost six times lower than the number registered a year earlier, when over 4,000 people had been internally displaced due to floods.
