In 2022, an estimated 32.3 million metric tons of poster-consumer plastic waste was collected across the European Union (EU 27), Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Of this total, around 27 percent was recycled. Energy recovery accounted for the largest share of post-consumer treatment, while landfilling accounted for almost a quarter.
