Just Eat - Statistics & Facts

Published by Jennifer Luty, Aug 13, 2019
Just Eat is an online food ordering and delivery service. Originally founded by Danish entrepreneurs, the company was bought and moved to the UK in 2006, where it went on to become a major player in the takeaway food delivery market . Now the company is among the most valuable global food tech companies from Europe.

Just Eat is a part of the restaurant-to-consumer delivery segment of the online food delivery market. Consumers use the Just Eat app or website to search for restaurants offering take out services and order food from them online. Unlike other platforms that incorporate a delivery service (e.g. Deliveroo), the delivery of food ordered via the Just Eat platform is conducted by the restaurant themselves, with Just Eat acting as an aggregator between restaurants and consumers. As of 2017, Just Eat had over 82 thousand restaurant partners worldwide and 21.5 million active users.

The biggest market for Just Eat by far is the UK, where over 100 million orders were processed in 2017 alone. Other established markets include Canada, Denmark, Ireland, France, Norway and Switzerland, which represented 27 percent of the company’s revenues in 2017. The brand is also developing in Mexico, Italy and Spain, where the latter had over 8,000 restaurants partners in 2017. Just Eat also bought and subsequently owns the platform Menulog in Australia and New Zealand, contributing almost 50 million British pounds in revenue for Just Eat plc in 2017.
