Tantalum: global reserves by country 2022

In 2022, China's tantalum reserves amounted to some 180,000 metric tons. Previously known as tantalium, tantalum is a rare transition metal that is hard, blue-gray in color, and lustrous. It is highly resistant to corrosion, which makes it invaluable for high-temperature applications such as in electrical devices and aircraft engines, as well as with handing corrosive chemicals.

The following countries also have tantalum reserves, however data was not available: Burundi, Bolivia, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Russia, Uganda, and others. The United States has approximately 55,000 metric tons of tantalum resources identified, however most of the deposits are not economically viable for extraction relative to current tantalum prices.
* For Australia, Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant or equivalent reserves were 39,000 metric tons.
