According to a survey on substance use in India between December 2017 and October 2018, the prevalence of current use opioids in the country stood at approximately 2.06 percent. Four percent of males were users, while female users constituted only 0.2 percent. Most notably, children between 10 to 17 years of age had a higher share of current use of opioids in the form of opium, heroin or pharmaceutical drugs at 1.8 percent.
