In Russian households with a combined monthly income under 15 thousand Russian rubles, 60 percent preferred to pay with cash as of 2019. The share of those preferring the traditional payment method decreased with the growing income of respondents. Among families earning over 60 thousand Russian rubles per month, more than one half mostly employed cashless payment instruments, compared to 30 percent using cash. In the first quarter of 2019, the highest share of cashless transactions across the country was conducted in restaurants in bars.
