Along the Mississippi and its tributaries are numerous flood protection levees. One of the longest levee systems in the U.S. is located along the Mississippi River East Bank at 105.62 miles. Some levee systems in the U.S. surpass 100 miles in length. The United States Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for some of the flood protection along the Mississippi watershed. In 2019, inspections rated 125 levees as unacceptable across the United States.
