The production of packaging paper and board in CEPI member countries totaled 46.2 million metric tons in 2023 - a decrease of 9.5 percent from the previous year. Containerboard represented the bulk of packaging paper and board production in Europe. While the online shopping boom has fueled the production of packaging paper and board in recent years, digitalization has heavily impacted the graphic paper sector. Between 2015 and 2023, graphic paper production in CEPI countries fell by more than 50 percent. The decline of graphic paper has also been experienced globally.
