In 2021, convenience stores accounted for a 7.8 percent sales share within the retail sector in Japan, representing the first decline within the last decade. Japanese convenience stores, commonly known as konbini, are mainly operated as chain and franchise stores under the three main domestic brands Seven Eleven, FamilyMart, and Lawson.
