Universal planned to make wide theatrical releases of 25 feature films throughout 2022, including movies distributed by Focus Features – both companies belong to Comcast. The figure is higher than the numbers seen before the pandemic. Meanwhile, the average number of cinema premieres of movies by Disney and 20th Century Studios decreased since The Walt Disney Company acquired 20th Century Fox in early 2019. That year, both companies released 21 films altogether. In the following years, their combined annual average stood below 12. The decrease followed the launching of Disney+ in late 2019 and the COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020.
