Cancer mortality rate in rural China 2021, by type
Cancer is estimated to be the cause of around three million deaths in China in 2021, making it a major cause of death among the country's citizens and a substantial public health challenge. The death rate varied significantly between different types of cancer. Due to widespread smoking, lung cancer was by far the most deadly cancer type among the Chinese population, with liver and stomach cancers also common in the country. The prevalence of many types of cancer could be reduced through lifestyle changes or prevention of diseases such as Hepatitis B or Helicobacter pylori infection.
