India: GHG emissions by sector 2050

The energy sector is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in India, having generated some 1.5 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO₂e) in 2022. By the year 2050, this figure is forecast to more than double and reach 3.3 GtCO₂e. In fact, according to World Data Lab, emissions across most sectors are projected to grow in the upcoming decades if no advancement in reducing emissions intensities is made.
