Attendance costs when studying in-state at U.S. universities, by state  2016/17 This statistic shows the average cost to attend university per year when living on campus and studying in-state in the United States in 2016/17. Attendance cost includes tuition and fees, room and board costs, books and supplies, and other personal and transportation costs. Studying in the District of Columbia was the most expensive in the academic year of 2016/17, with attendance costs adding up to approximately 61,191 U.S. dollars per year.
