Number of Hermès employees worldwide 2002-2023
The French luxury goods manufacturer Hermès employed in 2023 a total of 22,040 people worldwide. This would be more than four times the number of employees compared to the 5,361 people employed in 2002. Following the trend set by the growing number of employees, this company headquartered in the French capital, Paris, also increased its net profit from 421.7 million euros in 2010 to approximately 4.3 billion euros in 2023.
France not the core market of Hermès
Hermès’ total worldwide revenue leaped from 1.62 billion in 2007 to more than 13 billion euros 16 years later, in 2023. It is important to notice that almost half of the worldwide revenue in 2023 was captured in the Asian-Pacific area. Further nine percent of the revenue from Hermès was obtained in the French domestic market .
Other French producers of luxury goods compete with Hermès at a global and French domestic level
Hermès is not the only well-known successful French luxury good manufacturer. In the worldwide luxury goods market, brands such as Dior and Chanel represent a strong competition for Hermès. As of December 2021, the House of Dior obtained six percent of its revenue in France . In terms of revenue, Chanel also seemed to be a strong competitor in 2020. While Hermès’ global value of sales amounted to roughly 6.4 billion of euros in 2020, Chanel’s value of sales corresponded to over 10 billion euros .
